Conceptual Artwork For Dubfighter

Dubfighter is the up-coming collaboration between Arkham Design Studios and Wee Rock Productions. The concept is two years old and began as a low-budget martial arts movie full of afros, bad lip synching and kung fu/muay thai/savate. Steven Wetherell the writer/director, found recruiting actors able to do their own stunts and martial arts a real pain in the ass, and so the project never got past the storyboard stage.

Last year during an afternoon drinking larger in the sun with friends, me and Steve began discussing the possibility of driving Dubfighter in a different direction. I'd recently began watching re-runs of Samurai Jack and he got into a YouTube series called Sock Bunny. After a brief discussion about Dubfighter making a fun kung fu comic like Iron Fist, we came up with the idea of making it as a series of animated YouTube movies. The screenplay, shooting script and storyboard was already done, so I went straight into character conceptual design.

All the main characters are inked up and colored, but there are also several characters still in pencil which were ideas I had for further villains. After all, the thing that everyone remembers about Batman are the millions of crazy villains - why couldn't Dubfighter be any different?

Website Update

Its been two weeks now really and the website is half way finished. I'm building an eight page website which breaks down as follows...

PROFILE

A bit obvious really, this page establishes Arkham Design Studios; who we are, what we're about and what services we provide with some samples of work and contact details.

ILLUSTRATION

This page will go a bit more into detail on our illustration service and show an AJAX image gallery of the best work in our company portfolio. All work is created inside Adobe Illustrator CS3, Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Manga Studio.

WEBSITE DESIGN

This page is for our website design and development service, and a page that will go more into detail on our experience in building websites in the different languages of HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS, AJAX, JavaScript and PHP. All websites are built with Aptana Studio, with some of the visual design done with SeaMonkey and XML SiteMaps or RSS Feeds created in Smultron.

ANIMATION

Although this is going to be a fairly new part of the business, we're confident that within the year we will be able to offer a top quality 2D and 3D animation service for film or web using Anime Studio Pro and Toon Boom Studio.

CHARACTER DESIGN

This page goes more into detail on our conceptual design service with which we can produce conceptual character design in Adobe Photoshop CS3.

STOCK IMAGES

We thought this would be a fun extra service to include in the business where we can sell our own designs off as stock for whoever may want them. Each design is £1.99 and will be sold through Lulu.com to insure safe payment processing and faultless downloads for our customers.

MERCHANDISE

Like any design company we've accumulated a lot of work over the years, some of which we sell as framed prints and greeting cards through ImageKind.com.

Everyone's got one of these pages on their website so I won't insult your intelligence by explaining what it is.

As well as endless coding and image cropping over the past two weeks I've also been working on some promotion for the website. I've started up a FaceBook page, a MySpace one and this blog that you're reading. All of which will be linking into one another as well as the main website. I'm also planning a Youtube and GoogleVideos channel with which we can show off drawing-from-scratch videos and also some animation trials when we get around to them.

Well thats about it. The first blog is finished. I'm sure the next entry will be much more interesting.
